Abstract

This work concerns with the preparation and characterization of schiff base derived from 3-methoxybenzaldehyde and 4-chloroaniline. 4-chloroaniline provides amino group and m-anisaldehyde provides an aldehydic group to afford the schiff base ligand. Ni(P)and Cu(P) complexes were synthesized  by reacting together schiff base ligand and metal salt in 2:1 molar ratio. These complexes were characterized by electronic, infrared and atomic absorption spectroscopy. The ligand and metal complexes were evaluated for their antibacterial activity against three bacterial strains namely; E.coli, staphylococcus  aureus, pseudomonas aeruginosa. The antibacterial study was carried out by agar diffusion method. It was found that metal complexes are more antibacterial as compared to uncomplexed ligand.
